Welcome to ISMHO's International Information and Resources Compendium - a resource, about online mental health issues internationally, being compiled by members of the International Society for Mental Health Online. Topics include local services, laws and regulations, cultural issues, languages, research, education, and supervision that are available in different areas of the world. Because the information is provided by a variety of members we are unable to verify all content is accurate or up-to-date, however we welcome all input. If you see any errors or have information you would like to add, please join ISMHO and you can contribute as well.
We invite members to share what you know about online mental health issues in your country or state. Feel free to write about your experience in whatever way is most comfortable for you, or, if you need a guideline, you will find one available on each page. If English is not your first language, please feel free to write in your first language; other ISMHO members and members of the public who speak that language will be able to read it. If you can also write in English, that would be great for those who speak English.
The following is a guide you can use when contributing information about your country, province, region, or state, and feel free to add anything else you think is important:
1. Local educational events: describe workshops/conferences, topics of interest to local audience, local reactions to the provision of mental health services online.
2. Most common communication tools used in the country: texting, cell phone, computer based messaging, email, chat.
3. Level of access for the general population: how prevalent is the use of the different communication technologies?
4. Level and examples of online mental health: services/research/education/supervision.
5. Legal/regulatory issues: what are the relevant laws and regulations for mental health professionals, what is the position of local professional associations regarding online mental health services?
6. Insurance/payment options: is liability insurance for the provision of online mental health services available; are there third-party payment options?
7. Languages spoken.
8. Relevant cultural issues.
9. Resources in the field of online mental health.
How to get started:
It's very easy to add information to this wiki. First you need to be a member. You can join here. Below, you will find an alphabetical list of continents. Beneath each one is a list of countries represented by our members. If your country, or a country that you have information about, is missing, please contact Kali Munro. Click on the country you live in and you will be taken to a page where you can simply read the information that is there or click on the link "edit this page" located in the top left hand corner of the page immediately below our logo. You will be taken to an editing page where you can add information. When you're done, click save, and that's all there is to it!
We encourage different members from the same country or state to add what they know so that our compendium is as comprehensive as possible.
If you have any trouble with adding information, please feel free to send the information to Kali Munro to post it for you.
